1. Dyson Purifier Filters Do More Than Trap Dust

Dyson filters effectively remove 99.95 percent of harmful airborne particles. The combination of HEPA and activated carbon layers targets tiny pollutants down to PM0.1 size, along with PM2.5 emissions from industry or combustion sources and coarser PM10 matter such as pollen or common allergens. For the carbon component, its highly porous crystals offer extensive surface area to absorb various gases, household odors, and VOCs. In addition, Dyson purifiers trap specific gases like NO2, VOCs, benzene, and formaldehyde.  

Nine meters of carefully pleated and sealed borosilicate microfiber material trap particles, including allergens, bacteria, pollen, and mold spores. Meanwhile, the activated carbon layers eliminate smells and gases such as NO2 and VOCs, including formaldehyde and benzene, often released by paints, scented candles, or foam in furniture. Beyond typical contaminants, studies by Dyson’s Microbiology team have identified surprising captured items like dead hair, deceased insects, dust mites, and rubber fragments commonly found in home environments.

Tiny skin particles are constantly shed throughout the day and often become suspended in the air. Because of their lightweight nature, these particles can be inhaled or drawn into an air purifier, where they are trapped by the filter.

Strands of hair from people and pets frequently accumulate in air purifier filters. As hair breaks apart into smaller particles, it can circulate through indoor air and eventually be captured during filtration.

  • Insect Fragments

Cooking appliances, fireplaces, pets, and heavily used living spaces can all increase the amount of airborne particles a filter must capture. As a result, a purifier operating in a kitchen or near a wood-burning fireplace may require a new filter sooner than one placed in a bedroom or less active area of the home.

3. Simple Steps for Replacing a Dyson Air Purifier Filter

The Dyson air purifier is designed to monitor filter life automatically and will notify you when a replacement is required. Depending on your model, the alert will appear on the machine’s display screen or through the connected app.

Before replacing the filter, allow the purifier to cool for one to two hours if it has been running recently.

  • Switch off and unplug the purifier before starting.
  • Press the release buttons on both sides of the shrouds to remove them with the HEPA filters attached.
  • Remove the used filters and empty any collected debris into a rubbish bin, or dispose of the filter units according to local waste regulations.
  • Insert the replacement HEPA filters into the shrouds, ensuring they are fitted securely.
  • Reattach the shrouds to the purifier and press firmly until they click back into place.
  • After reassembling the appliance, press and hold the Standby ON/OFF button on the remote control for six seconds to reset the filter-life indicator.
  • Clean the sensor hatch whenever a filter is replaced. Open the small access panel and use a cotton swab to remove dust and debris from inside.

Regular cleaning of the sensor area helps maintain accurate readings and supports consistent purifier performance. Keep in mind that the filter indicator provides an estimate, and replacement intervals may vary depending on usage and indoor air quality conditions.
